바이칼 호 (Lake Baikal) 
*  러시아 시베리아 남동쪽에 있는 세계에서 가장 오래되고 가장 깊은 호수 (1,700m)이며 2,600여 종의 동식물이 살고 있는 생물종다양성의 보고이다
*  전세계 不凍 청정호수의 20%를 포함하고 있으며 다양하고 광범위한 동· 식물상이 분포되어 있어 진화 연구학의 예외적 가치를 지니고 있다
ㅇ 해발고도 1,500∼2,000m의 산들로 둘러싸인 바이칼 호수는 자연경관 또한 일품이다. 호수가 낮은 지대에는 숲이 울창하고, 멀리 봉우리에는 만년설이 눈부시다.

*  Situated in south-east Siberia, the 3.15-million-ha Lake Baikal is the oldest (25 million years) and deepest (1,700 m) lake in the world. It contains 20% of the world's total unfrozen freshwater reserve. Known as the 'Galapagos of Russia', its age and isolation have produced one of the world's richest and most unusual freshwater faunas, which is of exceptional value to evolutionary science.

말라위 호수 국립공원 (Lake Malawi National Park)  
* 아프리카 말라위 남부의 말라위湖는 짙은 녹음의 숲과 바위산으로 둘러싸여 있으며, 인접국들의 산업이 발달되지 않아 수질과 경관이 깨끗하게 보존되어 있다.
 * 이 호수의 크기는 3만㎢로 아프리카에서 3번째, 최대 수심 706m로 세계에서 4번째로 깊은 호수이다.
* 말라위 호수 공원은 많은 어류들이 서식(500여종 중에서 400종 이상이 고유종임)하고 있어 갈라파고스 섬에 비견 될 만한 진화연구의 좋은 지역임  

* Located at the southern end of the great expanse of Lake Malawi, with its deep, clear waters and mountain backdrop, the national park is home to many hundreds of fish species, nearly all endemic. Its importance for the study of evolution is comparable to that of the finches of the Galapagos Islands.
