메켄지 강은 캐나다 노스웨스트 준주의 그레이트슬레이브 호에서 발원하여 북극해로 흘러드는 강이다. 길이 1,738 km로 캐나다에서 가장 긴 강이다. 그레이트슬레이브호로부터는 매켄지산맥의 동쪽 기슭을 흘러서 매켄지저지(低地)를 만들고, 겨울의 동토가 녹아 못과 늪이 수없이 많은 툰드라삼림지역이 펼져진다.
